Week 7 Reflection: Hand Us that VOTE

Image
The 14 th  amendment was only the beginning in the process of paving the way for women's rights in the late 18 th  and early 19 th  century. There were two specific groups that opposed to including women in the 15 th  amendment, which stated the right to vote would not be denied on the account of race, color, or prior slavery. The National Women’s Suffrage Association, which was led by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton, opposed to women being included. While the American Women’s Suffrage Association, led by Lucy Stone, supported women being included.  in 1890 both groups merged to create the NAWSA. African American women also saw fit to join the fight for women’s right but were often still treated differently because of their race. However, they continued to stand for women’s right because they wanted to be included in the overall results and not be left out had white women been successful in this fight.   Carrie Chapman Catt Alice Pau...

Image
In the late 19 th  century the United States developed a more efficient foreign policy in result of the Spanish American War. Imperialism is one country extends control over a certain territory, political system, or economic life of another. This also comes with the establishment of other colonies. As a result of the United States winning the war, they took over the Phili...

The government played a major role in Americans expansion Westward. The government viewed the Native Americans as a threat. It is very interesting how American government could form the thought of Native Americans being a threat in their own ancestral homelands. You would think that the Americans would be thought of as the threat because they were trespassing and taking over a land that did not belong to them. Manifest Destiny was the main reason European Americans seen it okay for them to migrate west. It is the belief that it was Gods will for the European American people to expand westward and seek resources that were necessary to live.   The Homestead Act was created in 1862 by the government. It stated that any head of household or regular adult citizen could qualify for a grant of 160 acres of land in exchange for a registration fee. They also had to live on the land for a period of five years. This act gave more Americans a reason to move West and invade the original l...

Image
The Gilded Age was a term created by Mark Twain describing the 19 th  century which was all polished to be something it was not or in other words, pretty on the outside, ugly on the inside.     Factory The Industrial economy developed in the late 19 th  century. Industrialization can be defined as the process in which goods are made, mostly in factories. With industrialization becoming popular, many farm workers moved to places where industrial economies were booming to find work. By the 1900s employment in manufacturing had increased by millions. With the transition in population, came the need for more housing. The living wage came about due to white men seeing the need to separate themselves from the rest of the workers in order to make a higher compensation and be awarded the best positions. The living wage only benefitted white men because it allowed for employers to pay others less based on race, gender, and ethnicity. Women workers were paid l...
